Surrey County Council drops incinerator plans

Surrey County Council has axed plans to build two energy from waste plants after improved waste and recycling rates meant there was no need for such big facilities.In their place, a gasification plant and anaerobic digestion plant will be built to handle 100,000 tonnes of waste each year, instead of the 270,000 tonne capacity the incinerators offered.Leader of the council Dr Andrew Povey said: I am pleased to announce that we are scrapping plans ...
