Brewer targets 'zero waste'
Carling brewer Molson Coors is aiming to achieve zero waste to landfill by the end of 2012 with the use of anaerobic digestion.
The firm’s environmental performance report said it had slashed its waste to landfill by 51% between 2007 and 2011.
The company currently diverts 99.2% of waste from landfill, a total of 48,000 tonnes reused or recycled.
With £1m investment the firm has built an anaerobic digestion plant at its Sharp brewery in Cornwall to turn waste products into biogas to provide heat and power at the site.
Lee Finney, supply chain director at Molson Coors, said: “We’re proud that we are well on course to achieve zero-landfill waste this year but we are not about to rest on our laurels.”
He added: “We believe that good business practices embrace environmental stewardship. We know there is much work still to be done but we are working towards a more sustainable future for Molson Coors and will continue to report on our progress.”
