Hi-tech plant for Devon waste firm
Devon Contract Waste is creating 10 new jobs and investing £4m in plant which can identify every material and has the capability to recycle every single item of waste.
The processing plant, being built in Ireland, is said to be only the third of its kind in the UK and the only one in the South-West. It shreds the material and sends it across a series of screeners and conveyor belts to sorters with laser optics.
DCW managing director Simon Almond says the new jobs will be created within 12 months and the investment will secure the jobs of the company’s existing 62 permanent staff.
He said: “For businesses large or small, this means everyone can recycle, without separating it themselves if that’s not possible or practical for them to do. We can save them money; recycle all their waste, ensuring they comply with the new waste hierarchy regulations that came into force in September.”
The processing plant, which cost £1.9m, will be housed in a newly acquired site at March Barton. Building costs and the site itself cost a further £2.15m, bringing the total investment to £4.05m.
The company started in January 1989 and deals with about 6% of the total waste produced in Devon.
