Waste management firm Verdant has won a £2 million contract to take care of Conwy County Borough Council’s green waste collection service.

Verdant’s third local authority contract in Wales will serve 42,000 to 54,000 households for five years, with a free fortnightly collection system.

Verdant managing director Roger Edwards said he was, “delighted to deepen Verdant’s relationship with Wales and its recycling initiatives.”

Currently, the borough’s green waste is turned into compost and has a composting rate of over 44 per cent.

Conwy County Borough Council assistant waste manager Kelly Thomas said: “Verdant’s approach to collecting our green garden waste emphasises cost and operational efficiencies that will benefit residents and the council. The company has a great track record and we’re glad to welcome the team on board.”

Additionally, the collection trucks will run on biodiesel and use technology to improve fuel efficiency to cut emissions.
