The ESA are detached from reality. If we have any chance of slowing or halting global warming we need to stop burning rubbish along with a lot more measures . The Dutch realise that setting light to waste to make quick profits is environmentally unsupportable. Let us welcome this tax on RDF a great first step in limiting Incinerators
There are significant health risks from incinerators. They generate large amounts of traffic , MSW the preferred fuel comes in heavy vehicles with small payloads . The forecast traffic is always a much lower figure than the actual . The incinerator Operators always push the local councils to burn extra waste. The millions of tonnes of Carbon Dioxide they produces accelerates global warming. Flooding and high temperatures are certainly bad for the health if not fatal . Then there is the increased risk of birth defects
Good for Sadiq Kahn at last the penny has dropped that burning waste is irresponsible and an idiotic short term solution
Obviously the incinerator industry want Incinerators everywhere . They are a licence to print money and destroy the planet at the same time
This is pure fantasy. Once councils start recycling at anywhere near Welsh levels the Incinerators will be starved of fuel The last thing we need are more polluting green house gas generating Incinerators
I cannot wait for the government to introduce a hefty incineration tax to stop councillors with little or no grasp of the threat posed by global warming approving Incinerators . It’s lunacy to burn rubbish and release millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. These overpaid jobsworth are putting a curse on the future of the planet.
We are all glad that London Mayor Sadiq Kahn has said no more Incinerators for London. I am sure he will stand by his commitment and not be swayed by the incinerator lobby. It’s a short term solution that makes a lot of money for operators but nothing else .
Burning material pollutes and sends vast amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. The only way to stop this lunacy is to tax incinerator. We only have the one planet and incinerators do nothing to protect future generations. They make excellent profits for shareholders but the social and economic cost is unacceptable. Let’s have a swingeing tax just like we have on tobacco .
Incinerator are an idiotic way of dealing with waste. It makes short term profits for operators and destroys the environment
Cancer Research UK has confirmed that these particulates are carcinogenic yet Incinerators are being built close to schools and homes. This is disgraceful and the government must act to prevent people’s health being damaged . Swingeing taxes must deter Incinerators in the same way aggressively taxing cigarettes has helped cut down lung cancer deaths. We deserve decent unpolluted air
