London-based O’Donovan Waste Disposal reports that driver incidents have dropped by 25% since it invested in a bespoke operational management system for its fleet of 85 vehicles.
Last year, the company invested £80,000 in a system designed to improve driver performance in terms of safety and the environment, developed with its insurer HDI–Gerling UK.
Data for the past 12 months has shown that the investment has delivered smarter, smoother and safer driving, as well as a reduction in fuel consumption. Insurance claims frequency has shown a 60% reduction since the system was introduced.
It enables driver behaviour to be monitored in realtime and driving patterns to be identified. To encourage performance improvements among its drivers, O’Donovan introduced league tables for best and worst performers as well as a ‘driver of the week’.
