Bin locks improve safety

Container repair and refurbishment company UK Container Maintenance (UKCM) has introduced a Press2Lock mechanism on its containers in a bid to improve public safety and improve its customer offer.

Its key prevents the public from accessing containers, eradicating the problems caused by fly-tippers and scavengers, as well as the dangers of people sleeping rough. It is designed not to lock unintentionally when the lid shuts by mistake, reducing the risk of people or animals getting shut in bins. It also incorporates an instruction plate that glows in the dark to help users at night.

Co-founder Julian Elston said: “We have kept additional installation costs to a minimum to encourage as much take-up as possible.”
