£20,000 fine for scrap trader

A scrap dealer in Wales has been fined £20,000 for illegally storing vehicles.

The charges, brought by the Environment Agency Wales, were for not storing 300-400 scrap vehicles in accordance with the sites’ environment permit and failing to remove scrap vehicles from the site following an enforcement notice from the agency.

The defendant, Paul Brooks, pleaded guilty at Newport Magistrates Court, to breaching five conditions of the sites permit between 1 June 2009 and 23 August 2010, and to failing to comply with the requirements of the enforcement notice.

Brooks, age 50, was fined £10,000 for each offence, plus £1,346.90 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
