70% of waste management industry expects business growth in 2011

The waste management industry is expected to grow in 2011, following research undertaken by the Recycling and Waste Management (RWM) Exhibition in partnership with CIWM.

Results showed that of the 40 companies questioned, 70% of waste management professionals expected their businesses to grow in 2011, despite 44% of respondents identifying last year’s change of Government and public sector cuts as a key factor that will influence the industry this year. Nearly 65% said they thought 2011 would see an increase in commercial recycling and recovery rates.

Event director Gerry Sherwood said: “This research shows that the waste management sector is continuing to defy the odds with 48% predicting their businesses to grow by more than 10% his year while many industries are struggling in the wake of Government cuts and the recession.

“More business leaders are recognising the financial benefits of sustainable waste practices, which is boosting waste management related businesses.”
