8,000 apply for 1,000 jobs at Teesside steel plant

Around 8,000 people have already registered their interest in 1,000 newly-created jobs at Sahaviriya Steel Industries’ (SSI) Teesside steel manufacturing plant.

SSI began recruiting workers for its recently acquired Teesside Cast Products plant, previously owned by Tata Steel. In just a week, 8,000 people have registered their interest and 3,000 people have submitted applications.

When the Teesside plant was mothballed by Tata Steel in February last year, 1,700 people were made redundant.

A spokesperson for SSI said: “I’m sure we will get ex-steel workers applying for the jobs but we welcome all applications.”
