AD site to be built on Surrey green belt

Organic waste recycler Agrivert has been granted planning permission for an anaerobic digestion facility on Green Belt land in Surrey.

The plant, which will have the capacity to process 48,500 tonnes of waste per year, will be located next to an existing green waste composting facility at Trumps Farm, Longcross.

Surrey County Council’s planning and regulation committee voted nine to two in favour of the plant.

As well as improving Surrey’s recycling rates, the development will help the council meet its renewable energy obligations, producing more than 2MW of renewable electricity.

Local farmers will also benefit as the digestate produced is a valuable agricultural fertiliser that returns valuable nutrients to the soil.
