AmeyCespa has opened a facility at its Cambridgeshire site for sorting mixed materials from the south of the county.
The plant at the Waterbeach Waste Management Park will separate mixed materials including a variety of plastics, metals and paper from blue bins in South Cambridgeshire.
It will initially have the capacity to process around 60,000 tonnes of material each year, including both house household and business waste.
More than twenty new jobs will be created by the new facility.
Cllr Sue Ellington said: “The new plant opening is a timely reminder for our residents to try and do all they can to recycle. Paper is particularly important, as if it is put in the separate caddy in the top of the blue bin it can be recycled into higher quality products.”
