Anna Ryder Richardson launches Christmas card recycling scheme

Straight from the jungle, interior designer and Im a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! contestant Anna Ryder Richardson is fronting this years Woodland Trust Christmas Card Recycling Scheme launch. She has teamed up with campaign organisers Recycle Now and the Woodland Trust because, recycling Christmas cards shows how easy it is for people to make a difference, she told MRW. Ryder Richardson was the first to recycle her cards before twelfth night, when it is bad luck to still have decorations up. Her cards will go some way to meeting the collection target of 100 millions cards, which will raise money for planting 24,000 trees across the UK, as well as saving 2,600 tonnes of CO2, equivalent to taking 800 cars off the road. Also supporting the campaign are retailers Marks & Spencer food stores, Tesco, TK Maxx and WHSmith, who are hosting card deposit bins throughout January. Ryder Richardson said: I love sending and receiving Christmas cards. Its a great tradition and in the UK we send one billion of them each year. But I want to encourage everyone to remember to recycle them after Twelfth Night not only will it help the Woodland Trust plant more trees but also stops recyclable waste needlessly being sent to landfill. Recycle Now head Fridey Cordingley added: Recycling is one New Years resolution that is easy to make and keep throughout 2008. Christmas cards are one of the easiest things to recycle after all the festivities have ended and people will not only be helping to support the Woodland Trust but helping to tackle climate change too.
