Ardagh buys metal packaging firm

Aluminum packaging firm Boxal has been acquired by Dublin-based Ardagh Group.

Boxal was sold by Exal Corporation for €85m (£71m).

It supplies over 900 million aluminum containers a year to industries including pharmaceuticals and food and beverages for brands including L’Oreal, Coca-Cola and Heineken.

Niall Wall, Ardagh Group CEO, said the acquisition will assist the company to further diversify “into the aluminium can market, enhance our product offering and add value to our current activities”.

Ardagh Group produces metal and glass packaging for food, beverage and consumer product brands. It operates 88 manufacturing plants in 25 countries and has annual global sales of more than €3.2 bn (£2.6bn).
