Berryman no longer goes to the pub

After two years of collecting glass from over 10,000 pubs and catering establishments, Berryman has decided to call time on the Recycle More Glass scheme.

The company will now concentrate on its mainstream domestic kerbside and bring activities through local authorities and community groups.

Berryman general manager Mike Keogh said: "We overestimated the return we would get in glass tonnages for the investment that we would need to make. When we introduced modest charges earlier this year, although we did gain the support of some of the licensed premises that we had been servicing free of charge, many of them were reluctant to agree to a longer-term arrangement."

Berryman has been talking to a number of contractors about obtaining the service that it purchased from Valpak in 2003.
