Biffa has joined in the ‘blitz spirit’ of the riot clean-up by offering the use of its skips to the Manchester area, which was hit by riots to its city centre on Tuesday (9 August). Meanwhile, crews unable to carry out collection rounds in Waltham Forest used their shifts to sweep up the debris from the destruction caused to buildings.
The firm reported that collections across London, the West Midlands and Manchester proved to be challenging, with some routes disrupted by road closures. Biffa also found that bins and skips had been moved by authorities for fear they may be used as a blockade by rioting gangs, causing a few logistical problems.
However, collections in Birmingham and Manchester returned to normal on Wednesday (10 August), with just a one-day set back. Biffa has been informing customers of the situation and urging those with queries to call customer services.
