Bradford waste PFI teams shortlisted

The shortlist for Bradfords municipal waste management private finance initiative has been revealed, with four consortia left in the running for the £1 billion contract.

According to MRWs sister publication Infrastructure Journal, the remaining bidders are understood to be:

  • Covanta/Kelda
  • Earthtec/Skanska
  • Shanks/Scottish and Southern Electricity
  • United Utilities/John Laing/Costain.

Sixteen teams originally submitted expressions of interest and these were reduced to eight in October 2008.

The 35-year contract, jointly procured by Bradford Metropolitan District Council and Calderdale Council, is expected to be worth £750 million to £1.28 billion. The scheme was awarded £61m in PFI credits in April 2008.

Technologies that may be used in the project include a combination of mechanical biological treatment, in-vessel composting and thermal treatment.
