British gas to train ‘green’ workers

British Gas is set to train thousands of unemployed people to help deliver greener communities.

The firm’s Green Skills Training Centre in Tredegar South Wales officially opened on May 13 with the aim of training over 1,300 people a year.

As well as British Gas’ own engineers, the centre will provide training and qualifications for energy efficiency assessors and installers of new green technologies.

Among the rapidly growing green technologies on show at the Centre are smart gas and electricity meters, Solar Thermal panels, Solar Photovoltaic panels which generate hot water and electricity, state-of-the-art combined heat and power boilers which use waste heat to generate power, and ground-source heat pumps.
