Britvic pilots recycling hub

An ‘on-the-go’ recycling hub is being installed in a Tamworth shopping centre as the first of seven pilot schemes by recycling charity Recoup with drinks maker Britvic.

The Ankerside Shopping Centre will host the Britvic Recycling Hub, allowing shoppers to deposit their bottles and cans for recycling.

Every tonne of waste collected through the scheme will produce up to £100 worth of raw materials that will be recycled locally into new cans and bottles.

Britvic head of corporate affairs Susan Turner said: “We’re delighted to be launching Britvic’s first pilot hub in Tamworth, and building on the town’s strong track record for reducing waste.

“We hope the new scheme will make it even easier for everyone to take part in the process.”

Andy Newton, head of projects at Recoup, added: “Two-thirds of what we throw away could have been reused or recycled. But with increasingly busy lives it’s hard to make the time to visit the nearest recycling bank.

“This is why we’ve teamed up with Britvic to give shoppers the chance to do their bit for the environment while they shop.”
