Broxbourne streamlines kerbside scheme

Broxbourne Borough council will change its kerbside recycling scheme in August by adding an extra collection box and getting rid of clear sacks.

Previously a single green box was used to collect recyclables and a clear sack was used to collect plastic bottles.

Now the green box will be reserved for paper and glass and the new black box will be used for cans and plastic bottles, eliminating the need for clear sacks.

The council said the new kerbside service would allow it to reduce the number of collection vehicles needed – reducing carbon emissions – and increase the number of flats with a kerbside recycling service. In addition there would be need to buy and distribute the clear sacks.

Broxbourne Borough has been trialling the scheme among a sample of householders since last November. Most of those taking part were happy with the changes.
