Broxbourne Borough Council has announced the closure of a number of its Neighbourhood Recycling Centres (NRCs).
The facilities at Taverners Way, Hoddesdon, Burford Street, Hoddesdon and Groom Road, Turnford will shut for good on 24 May.
A Broxbourne Borough Council spokesman said: “The closures are taking place as part of service adjustments following the expansion of the Council’s kerbside collection service for glass, paper and cans, which now covers over 90% of the borough.
Although the tonnage of glass collected at NRCs has fallen over the last two years with residents increasingly making use of the expanded kerbside recycling service, the tonnage of paper, plastics and cans has remained steady.
However, council officials moved quickly to reassure members of the public that the closures would not have an adverse effect on the local authority’s good record on recycling.
The spokesman added: “Alternative facilities are available close to these three sites. The nearest alternative NRC to Burford Street and Taverners Way is located at Sainsbury’s in Brewery Road and the nearest alternative to Groom Road is at The Spring’s opposite Hertford Regional College in Turnford.”
