Carlsberg/Biffa glass collection scheme goes national

A national roll out of a Carlsberg led waste glass collection scheme will go ahead in May following a recent review of localised trials with partner Biffa.

The trials, which were launched in February this year, in Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield, offered Carlsberg customers a reduced price glass collection and recycling service (March 12 2008,

Carlsberg customer operations manager Tony Richman said: The trial went well and uptake was what we expected. Well continue to do promotions of the scheme as well as getting feedback from licensees offered the trial service to find out why they didnt sign up.

We are also continuing to look at a similar take back scheme specifically for festivals for cans and that type of thing.

One thing we did note from the trial was the need to get across the financial savings of the scheme more. In the initial literature the point wasnt made as strongly as it could have been, so we will make more of the cost savings in the national roll out promotion. We think that customers may become more aware of the costs saving opportunities as their commercial waste bills start to increase this month, following the budget.
