Casepak and SCA Recycling have won a five year waste management contract with Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council .
Under the new deal the council will provide 28,000 tonnes of waste a year, from fortnightly commingled collections and recycling centres and bring sites. Walsall Council said the deal should help it increase its current recycling rate of 47% to 50%.
The contract came into effect last month and much of the material will eventually be processed at Casepak’s new £21m MRF in Leicester. Casepak and SCA Recycling take over from Greenstar (now Biffa).
Construction of the MRF is due to be completed in September and is due to be fully operational during the final quarter of this year. The MRF, which aims to recover 95% of material input, will then have a yearly processing capacity of 150,000 tonnes.
Walsall Council executive director for Neighbourhood Services Jamie Morris said the partnership would “help us to further improve our already very successful track record in recycling across the borough.”
