Certified compost now being produced in the millions

Over a million tonnes of certified compost a year is now produced in the UK, thanks to Agrivert joining The Compost Association’s (TCA) certification scheme for BSI PAS 100.

Agrivert, based in Oxfordshire, became the 60th producer to join TCA’s certification scheme. It uses recycled kitchen and garden waste to make compost for landscapers, farmers, and garden centres.

Announcing the milestone at TCA’s annual conference last week, TCA chief executive Jane Gilbert said: “Composting is no longer a cottage industry. All across the UK professional composters are reaping the benefits of manufacturing high quality products fit for a range of markets.”

The BSI PAS 100 for composted material was sponsored by the Waste and Resources Action Programme and developed with TCA. It has been adopted by TCA as the specification composted materials must meet to use TCA’s logo and receive the independently verified TCA certification.
