Community waste sector unites

Three support networks for the community waste sector have joined forces to speak with one voice to the Government and stakeholders.

The Furniture Reuse Network (FRN), the Community Composting Network and London Community Recycling Network have signed agreements with each other to coordinate their activities.

This has been in response to the three organisations realising that they have often sent out confusing messages and duplicated activities in the past.

FRN chief executive officer Paul Smith said: It is important that we develop a complementary range of services and are able to speak with a united and coherent voice as our membership enters a critical phase in its development from marginal niche players to a substantial sector of professional social enterprises. This tripartite agreement will allow us to act as a one stop shop for support services, contract brokerage and sector representation whilst maintaining each organisations distinctive specialist focus, sector accountability and independence.

The Memoranda of Understanding signed commits the networks to appointing one to represent them on key issues and to working together to develop sustainable organisations able to make a significant impact on waste management in the UK.
