Company investigate fire

Charles Lawrence International is working with the fire service forensic team to determine the cause of a fire at their Newark recycling plant.

The blaze broke out last Saturday in the tyre stockpile, with emergency service officials complimenting employees on how efficiently they responded.

Managing director Roger Hicks said: "While the fire looked dramatic because of the amount of flames and smoke generated, it caused only minor superficial damage to the plant and machinery."

The company process 15,000 tonnes of waste tyres each year for playing surfaces but are currently working at two-thirds capacity.

It is hoped the plant will be fully operational by midweek with the intensive investigation finding the cause.
