Compliance scheme buys Welsh version

Wastepack Group has acquired compliance scheme Recycle Wales, strengthening the group’s position in the marketplace.

The group already operates compliance schemes Westpack and Electrolink. The addition of Recycle Wales secures the group’s claim of being the second-largest compliance group in terms of its membership.

According to Wastepack, Recycle Wales is the only compliance scheme based in Wales, although it does not operate there exclusively.

Wastepack feels the move will bring a positive message to industry, given what it calls “the recent uncertainty cast by the actions of another large compliance scheme”.

Referring to recent reports about the uncertain future of Valpak, Wastepack chief operating officer Lynne Cullis said: “Eyebrows have been raised recently within the compliance sector because of recent statements made by another compliance scheme.

“Our acquisition of Recycle Wales will send a positive message of the commitment we give to all our scheme members and to the wider producer responsibility community.
