Compost Awareness Week 2008 will run from May 4 10 said the Composting Association. Chief executive Jane Gilbert said that the week of events offered the opportunity for the composting and biodegradable resource management industries to raise awareness about the importance of composting and its role in making the UK more environmentally friendly. She added: We encourage all our members to get involved and to use this week as an opportunity to reach out to their local community, to make links with their neighbours and to explain the positive impact that composting has on the environment. We will be working closely with the Waste & Resources Action Programme and other partners to ensure that next years Compost Awareness Week will be the most successful ever. The event takes place simultaneously in the UK and across Europe as well as in Canada, America and Australia. Compost Awareness Week began in Canada in 1995 and was brought to the UK in 2001 by the Composting Association.
