Compost producers enjoy market promotion

International Compost Awareness Week 2007 (6 to 12 May), organised in the UK by the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), aims to promote the use and production of good quality green compost.

The week is a joint venture between three of WRAPs campaigns: Compost At Home; Know Your Compost; and the Organics Programme.

Compost producers have much to celebrate as a WRAP report has found that landscaping professionals are specifying more quality assured compost than ever before.

WRAPs study found that 35% of landscape professionals now use 10% more compost made from recycled garden materials. The research also showed that the compost market within the landscaping industry has grown by 3% each year since 2005.

As well as raising awareness of the product, the organisers are promoting the Quality Protocol for Compost, which was launched in March 2007.The initiative will ensure that compost is seen as a quality product rather than waste.
