Construction products association develops flooring action plan

An action plan to divert some of the 90% of flooring sent to landfill each year has been launched by the Construction Products Association.

Published earlier this month, the Flooring Resource Efficiency Action Plan was developed in order to address the 600,000 tonnes of flooring is disposed of every year. According to the document, less than 2% (12,000 tonnes) of flooring is recycled every year, with 90% sent to landfill – which could cost the industry as much as £45m.

The flooring action plan sets out a number of activities aimed at reducing the level of material sent to landfill, including the establishment of a flooring sustainability partnership, the creation of an industry wide data collection scheme and the investigation of the potential of a Flooring Recycling Note (FRN) scheme.
