Council reward scheme boasts strong start

Recyclebank is claiming initial success within the fourth council area to take up its rewards-for-recycling scheme.

In partnership with Veolia Environmental Services (VES), residents’ household waste is measured and good practice is converted into points which are redeemable at nearly 300 local and national retail outlets.

Recyclebank says it has been “astounded” at the uptake in Wokingham Borough Council in the three months since it was launched.

The borough now has more than 16,000 members, the fastest uptake Recyclebank says it has seen to date. Members have earned over one million points and the most popular vouchers claimed have been for health and beauty, entertainment, food and drink.

In March, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead extended its contract with Recyclebank and VES for a further four years. The other two councils are Halton in Cheshire and Lambeth in London.
