Court appeal ends for SITA

SITA UK has conceded defeat in its battle to build an incinerator in Aberdeen.

The waste management firm announced it would no longer pursue its appeal against Aberdeen City Councils refusal of planning permission for an energy-from-waste (EfW) facility at its Altens site.

SITA UK Aberdeen general manager Peter Lawrence said: Obviously, SITA UK is disappointed at the decision not to move forward with EfW in Aberdeen. However, we have recognised that EfW is not the communitys favoured approach and this has influenced our decision.

Friends of the Earth Scotland and community groups launched a campaign against the proposed incinerator, leading the council to reject the plans.
