Crews featured in recycling reminders

Billboards featuring caricatures of its recycling crew have been a success with residents and crews alike, according to Dacorum Borough Council.

It has emblazoned the sides of its recently procured fleet of refuse and recycling vehicles with bright cartoon-like caricatures of its recycling crew members along with recycling messages.

The eye-catching posters focus on a recyclable item, presenting a memorable and informative message.

Dacorum waste services manager David Austin said: Our crew members are the focal point of our campaign because they are the ambassadors of the service. Our residents identify the service with the crew that pick up their refuse and recycling and so it is important to empower the staff to take ownership of the service through involving them in the overall campaign message.

The council had a recycling rate of 45% in 2006, and said its fresh and imaginative recycling reminders recycle helped achieve its success.
