Cup recycling scheme adds members

Several big brands including the John Lewis Partnership have signed up to a new paper cup recycling scheme which begins in August.

The Simply Cups scheme was announced in June and will operate within the M25. It is a partnership between Closed Loop Environmental Solutions and Simply Waste Solutions.

Other companies that have signed up to the scheme are catering and facilities management companies BaxterStorey and ISS Facility Services, cup manufacturers Huhtamaki and Solo Cup Europe, alongside industry associations and environmental charities including WRAP, the Automated Vending Association and Keep Britain Tidy.

Closed Loop’s Peter Goodwin said: “At long last there is a robust scheme in place for companies, who recognise the commercial value of taking their corporate social and environmental responsibilities seriously, to address the increasingly difficult issue of cup recycling.”
