Cyclist killed in collision

A cyclist has been killed after colliding with a refuse collection lorry during the afternoon rush-hour.

The incident happened at the Redbridge roundabout in Southampton at around 16:38 hours on Tuesday April 18 while the traffic flow was very heavy.

The driver of the lorry was arrested and questioned by police and later released on bail.

Inspector Smith of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Police said that the cyclist, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene and appealed for witnesses.

A Southampton City Council spokesman said that the lorry involved was not working for the city council.
