Defra opens consultation on waste guidance

Defra has opened an informal consultation on plans to simplify guidance for the waste management sector.

The department has proposed content on new guidance for the industry and is hoping to hear responses by 7 February.

The subjects of the proposals include:

  • Battery Waste
  • WEEE
  • Packaging and packaging waste
  • End of life vehicles (ELVs)
  • General waste rules
  • Hazardous waste
  • Exporting and importing waste

The initiative is part of Defra’s Smarter Environment Regulation Review. Defra and its regulators are working with the Government Digital Service (GDS) to migrate Government websites onto the new www.gov.uk platform by April 2014.

The Welsh Government is also inviting comments from Welsh businesses about proposed amendments to the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 and reforms to the Waste Duty of Care.
