DS Smith takes over Middleton Paper’s recycling unit

DS Smith has acquired the Recycling Division of Middleton Paper, a move that the company says will allow it to expand its presence in the Midlands.

Middleton Paper’s recycling division generates 9,000 tonnes a year of fibres, dealing with a range of paper and cardboard grades. It is a business unit of Walsall-based Middleton Paper, part of the Middleton Group.

Peter McGuinness, chief executive at DS Smith Recycling Division, said:  “The Birmingham region is a key industrial and commercial area and the purchase of Middleton Recycling will allow us to target material and grow our presence here.

“It is a strategic fit for growing our business and extends our coverage in the area.”

The sum involved in the deal has not been disclosed.
