A DS Smith director has taken over the chair of the recycling group of the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) and pledged to increase lobbying and engagement work.
Jim Malone, DS Smith’s European sales and purchasing director, left, will head the CEPI’s recycling and product committee for the next two years.
Malone said: “We are working on ideas for increasing our lobbying and engagement work, particularly towards local authorities and consumers.
“The committee will keep an active eye on legislation and how new regulations could impact on the paper industry’s activities.”
Malone added that as a chairman he will oversee a number of ongoing issues, including implementing the new EN643 paper grade, looking at the impacts of food contact within the paper sector and ensuring end of waste paper criteria is “sensible and practical” for the industry.
Brussels-based CEPI represents 520 pulp, paper and board producing companies and 950 paper mills across Europe.
