Barnsley-based DTS Environmental has launched a skip hire service, following a fire at a recycling facility that almost wiped the company out.
Following the fire in September 2010, which is estimated to have caused £3m of damage and destroyed the company’s bespoke recycling equipment, DTS reduced its workforce by 20. Since March, it has now re-focused on skip hire and preserved 10 jobs to run the service.
Commercial manager Robert Skelton said: “After the fire, and especially after we wrote to customers explaining that we were not able to process their recycling, some people thought we had gone out of business.
“A lot of firms that have gone through what we went through would probably have given in, but we never really went away. The fire was a setback, that’s all. The skip hire business is doing well, and we intend to refurbish and re-open the recycling business as soon as we can.”
