EA revokes permit after blaze

The Environment Agency (EA) has revoked Recovered Fuels Shipping’s permit to operate a recycling plant in Salford, Manchester, after a huge blaze at the site earlier this year.

The fire broke out at the site in March, after which the EA served a suspension notice which prohibited the company from accepting any more waste at the site. The notice also stipulated that remaining waste at the site had to be removed.

However, the EA has now gone one step further and revoked the permit altogether.

In a statement the EA said: “Subject to any appeal, the revocation takes effect on 7 August 2014, which means after that date the company will no longer be able to operate from that site. The company is still required to remove all the waste.”
