Eco-elves descend on London

Eco-elves have descended on four London boroughs in a bid to spread a special Christmas message.

Part of the Recycle Western Riverside (RWR) campaign that covers the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Lambeth, Kensington and Chelsea and Wandsworth, the elves have been giving out recycling-themed decorations.

Each decoration represents a different item that cant be recycled in residents collection services and suggests a sustainable alternative.

RWR hopes that if residents hang the decorations on their Christmas trees at home, they will serve as a visual reminder to recycle the correct materials.

With households estimated to throw out a tenth of their annual rubbish during the festive period, RWR is keen to ensure residents recycle the right things.

Many people dont realise that if their recycling contains lots of items that cant be recycled it may become too difficult to sort and end up being sent to landfill with their normal rubbish. Our eco-elves will spread some festive cheer and at the same time help residents ensure their recycling doesnt go to waste this Christmas, said RWR campaign manager Sam Jarvis.
