EMR has been chosen by Sita UK as its preferred bidder for the bulk of its metals division operations.
The sites involved are at Boreham, Coventry, Lenwade, Norwich and Sheffield.
The announcement came at the end of a 45-day consultation on the future of Sita metals’ recycling operations. The review was opened in the wake of difficult trading conditions with no sign of improvement in the market, Sita said at the time.
The company is now reviewing the feedback received and says it will make a formal decision later this month.
Mike Dobson, communications manager at Sita UK, said: “We can confirm that EMR is the preferred bidder to purchase SITA UK’s metals division at the following locations: Boreham, Coventry (Metals), Lenwade Processing Facility, Norwich and Sheffield (Metals). We are continuing to consult with members of staff but we are unable to provide any further information at this time.”
Dobson was unable to comment on the future of the sites at North Tyneside and Hayes, which were included in the consultation process.
