Greenstar UK has begun installing equipment at its Atlas plant, which is to be Londons largest materials recycling facility.
Since construction of the building finished at the 250,000 tonnes per year facility, work has begun on installing over 1,600 tonnes of steelwork and processing equipment. A waste transfer station is also located onsite to process a further 250,000 tonnes of waste annually once the facility is complete.
According to Greenstar, the equipment - supplied and installed by Californian MRF specialist CP Manufacturing - and design of the facility will mean it can take high volume at high speeds creating high quality material.
Greenstar UK chief executive Ian Wakelin said: The high speed processing capacity and output quality for Atlas will be strategically important for Greenstar and for local authorities in the capital and the south east.
Additionally, Greenstar has already secured local authority contracts for processing over 100,000 tonnes of domestic recyclables each year. It plans to win commercial recyclable collection and processing contracts for the remaining capacity.
