Essex County Council seeks contractors for waste PFI contract

Essex County Council and Southend Borough Council are seeking a contractor or consortium of contractors to enter into a long-term contract for the treatment of residual municipal waste.

According to MRWs sister publication Infrastructure Journal, the contract is anticipated to have an operational period of 25-30 years, including possible contract extensions.

The authorities currently recycle 43 per cent of their waste and plan to increase this to 50 per cent before 2020, increasing to 60 per cent to 2037.

The site will be located in Basildon, Essex, and requests to participate must be in by 12 January 2010.
