Alchemy Metals has appointed Robin Edwards, the former project lead for Operation Tornado and deputy lead for the National Metal Theft Taskforce, as national infrastructure manager, metal theft.
In his newly created role at the metals dealer, Edwards will advise the industry, police and other partners on how to tackle metal theft and improve asset management procedures and disposal, in particular of metal scrap.
Edwards first became involved in tackling metal theft in 2010 when infrastructure companies such as Network Rail, BT and various energy networks were having their services impacted by metal thieves.
He was the national project lead for Operation Tornado, reducing metal theft by 44% in its first year, and was involved in the initial draft legislation and subsequent implementation of the 2013 Scrap Metal Dealers Act.
Edwards said: “One of our main objectives is to arm infrastructure companies with the appropriate knowledge and systems required to tackle metal theft in all its forms.
“Internal metal theft and lack of control of materials in particular continues to be a key issue for infrastructure companies; the opportunity to work with an ethically proven metal merchant to help solve these problems was a natural progression from British Transport Police”
