Festival excess cleaned up by Biffa

Waste management and recycling specialist Biffa is to manage 3,000 tonnes of waste at British festivals this summer.

The company is working at various events including Parklife, Download, Global Gathering, Latitude, V, Creamfields and Leeds.

On-site waste sorting facilities will make sure that cardboard and cans are sent directly for recycling, whilst other recyclables will be sorted at Biffa’s national network of materials recovery facilities.

Compostable waste will either be composted or used to make ultra-low carbon energy through anaerobic digestion, while all remaining rubbish will be turned into a fuel and used to generate electricity.

Biffa project manager Charlie Campbel saild: “We’ll be recycling more festival waste than ever before.

“Managing the waste collected by Ryans Cleaning teams at so many festivals is a great opportunity – we’re going to be diverting an enormous amount of waste from landfill and might even get chance to see a band or two.”
