Firms recycle 90% waste due to new recycling banks

A new recycling bank system for business waste in Yorkshire and the North East has resulted in nearly 90 per cent of waste being recycled.

Provided by Premier Waste, the initiative means businesses can simply collect their paper, cardboard, plastics, metal cans and plastic film in one container. This is then sorted at Premier Wastes materials recycling facilities.

Since launching last year, the scheme has proven popular with 50,000 tonnes of recyclables collected each month, leaving businesses with very little or no waste going to landfill.

Premier Waste divisional director for collection and sales Adrian Denton said: We devised the recycling bank system to recycle materials that are the most abundant in the commercial waste stream. We are seeing businesses really engaging with the new system, and clearly it is working.

Sheet metal enclosure manufacturer, Dacon Fabrications is participating in the scheme. Purchasing manager Mark Bocking added: The recycling bank is a decent size for us. The factorys certainly much tidier and we are doing a lot more recycling since we started using Premiers waste system.
