Small UK businesses are saving at least £58 million per year by using a Government-backed free online service, helping them gain a better understanding of environmental law, according to a new survey.
The NetRegs service provides small and medium sized businesses with environmental guidance. Independent research commissioned by NetRegs showed that enterprises were benefitting from financial savings on consultant fees and avoiding fines that they would have incurred through non-compliance.
Federation of Small Businesses chairman for environment and energy policy unit John Holbrow said: Environmental awareness should be a top priority for small businesses to help them not only to save costs but also to improve their competitive edge.
Environment Agency head of external programmes Martin Brocklehurst added: We know small and medium-sized businesses struggle to keep on top of environmental regulations, but in such a challenging financial climate it is more important than ever that they take advantage of the potential savings of going green.
