Multi-award winning product, EcoSheet, is a pioneering invention that is also entirely recyclable.
The Luton site will be capable of recycling almost 25,000 tonnes of waste plastic, normally sent to landfill.
2K Manufacturing co-founder Omer Kutluoglu said: The UK has a worrying amount of plastic waste. Five million tonnes goes to landfill each year and 93 per cent cannot currently be recycled. We can take a huge variety of mixed plastic waste, from hospital and supermarket waste to yoghurt pots or even biros and turn it into a durable, high performance product for the construction industry.
The recycling process turns waste plastic into strong recyclable plastic material that is suitable to use in caravans, signage and hospital cubicles as well as for the EcoSheet.
The UK uses over 25 million non-recyclable plywood sheets a year. Once the 11 mixed plastics recycling centres are in place they will produce four million pieces of plywood substitute each year.
MRW reported in January green project investor Foresight Groups £5m investment for the multi-site roll-out. (see story)
