Focus on waste transportation

London Remade is hosting its fourth local authority networking event focusing on the transport of waste and recyclables.

Speakers include Dr Robin Curry from EnviroCentre, principal author of the STRAW report which highlights the transport infrastructure needed to support the future of the recycling industry. The report advocates using rail and water networks as viable alternatives to road, as reducing the dependence on landfill will mean waste will need to travel greater distances.

Transport for London will focus on the draft London freight plan which addresses the challenge of providing efficient freight transport practices to support economic development while causing minimum disruption to the social and natural environment. It proposes exploring the opportunities for transporting waste and construction material to and from major developments such as the Olympics and Stratford development sites using the River Thames and River Lea.

The event will take place on October 16 at the Institute of Physics in London from 2-5pm.
